An Extravaganza of Excess

Could there be a better time to go watch a monster truck show? With rising gas prices, a mounting recession, and environmental paranoia, it may be our only escape from reality. It’s not the most sophisticated sporting event to some, but you’d be hard pressed to find anything more kick-ass. There is something extremely gratifying about watching giant cars jump over mounds of flaming rubble, while AC/DC’s “TNT” blares raucously around the explosions and head banging mullets.

It may seem wasteful and irresponsible, but the roars of those engines, the screams of the crowd, and the great taste of a tallboy will make you forget all the world’s frivolous problems in no time. Dust off your favorite flannel shirt, and come celebrate a night of a good ol’ American excess, when Monster Jam: Summer Heat barrels through the Bank Atlantic Center (1 Panther Pkwy., Sunrise) this Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost $20 or $10 for the kids. Visit www.bankatlanticcenter.com for show times.
