"Sayin' 'I Love You'"

Perhaps no other ballad was ever so cleverly designed to get into women’s panties than the early-΄90s hit “More Than Words.” The acoustic foot-tapper had Gary Cherone beautifully serenading his ladyfriend, telling her in a very subtle and charming way: “Baby, words cannot express how strongly I feel for you. So instead of all that lip flappin’ you’re doing, we should just get to feeling each other… What I’m mean is, let’s have-a the sex.”

It’s precisely that sort of charm that brought Cherone’s band Extreme to the heights of heights at that time. They gave awkward teenagers at prudish high school dances everywhere hope that they too could get lucky, if only they could convince their dates it was the ultimate expression of their love. Moral: Bring a date to the Extreme show tonight at 8 p.m. at Revolution (200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale). When “More Than Words” comes on, pull your beau close and say what Cherone would. Thank us later. Tickets cost $24. Visit www.jointherevolution.net.
