Or: Men In Uniform Celebrating Men In Uniform

If you wanted to get philosophical about what is, after all, a gay party celebrating a very specific fetish, you might consider this: The scene at Stonewall back in 1969 couldn’t have been all that different from what you’re likely to encounter at 10 p.m. this evening at Steel/Jackhammer Video Bar & Lounge (1951 NW 9th Ave, Fort Lauderdale). The music will be loud (thanks to DJ Ryan Morales), the boys will be plentiful, the men will be manly, and the booze will flow freely — and everybody will be dressed, you know, kind of strangely. The big diff is, in 1969 the cops busted the Stonewall revelers, and at Steel, the cops will be celebrated. The party this evening, called Men In Uniform (and yes, they’d like it if you could dress for the occasion), is set to benefit the Broward Police Benevolent Foundation with a $2500 raffle and silent auction. It’s impossible to say how the boys feel about this at the station. If, however, they should deign to attend, it’s a given that the Steelers will give them a very, very warm welcome.
