Daily Candy Imagineered It!

Have you ever had an instance that was so 2008 that no dictionary-approved word could quite capture it? Language is changing faster than we can approve/disapprove words on UrbanDictionary.com. That’s why Daily Candy — the e-mail service geared toward women – has decided to create its own compendium. The Daily Candy Lexicon: Words That Don’t Exist but Should covers words and phrases so important that you kinda can’t believe you went this long without knowing them. “Lady Business Causal” for instance, is: “An adverb, referring to when your hoo-ha is past due for a wax.” Or “Yellular,” an adjective describing: “an annoyingly loud cell phone conversation.”

While it’s unlikely that words from Lexicon will wind up in this year’s National Spelling Bee, it’s very likely that they’ll wind up in each e-mail you send your girlfriends for the rest of your life. Of course, first you need to get a copy. Fortunately you have local go-getters, the Young Literary Professionals of Broward County, running interference. They’ve coupled with Daily Candy for a book party today at the Posh Lounge and Bar in the Waverly (110 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale). Brooke Siegel, editor of Miami’s Daily Candy, will be on hand to help you navigate this new, exciting world of words. And who knows? Maybe you’ll get active with the YLPBC; it’s always nice to have friends who can read. There will be free appetizers and half-priced cocktails, and books available for purchase. It’s free and open to the public at 6 p.m. The dress is Lady Business Casual (just kidding).
